Career

Marcio Santos began his career at the Novorizontino club, with which he went from the amateur league to Serie B of the Brazilian championship . Then, Marcio played for Internacional and Botafogo . After receiving the “Silver Ball” , awarded to the best players of the championship of Brazil, Marcio went to Europe, where he played for the French “ Bordeaux ”, went to League 1 , where he spent 2 seasons.

In the summer of 1994, Marcio joined the Italian club Fiorentina . Before the championship, the club’s president, Checky Gory , promised that if the Brazilian scored 6 goals in the season, he would arrange a dinner with Sharon Stone , whose fan was Marcio. The season for Fiorentina failed: the club took only 10th place in Serie A , and the Brazilian scored only twice and sent two more goals to his own goal.

In 1995, Marcio moved to Ajax , where he was planned as a replacement for Frank Rykard . However, in two seasons the Brazilian spent only 21 matches, the reason for which was numerous injuries and the game of Frank de Boer , who had a firm place at the heart of the team. Also, the Brazilian became the fastest player removed from the field in the championship of the Netherlands : in the match with PSV he received a red card already at the 19th second of the meeting.

In 1997, he returned to Brazil, where he played for the clubs Atletico Mineiro , Sao Paulo and Santos . Then he played in small Brazilian clubs in China and Bolivia.

International Career

As part of the Brazilian national team, Marcio made his debut on September 12, 1990 in a friendly game with Spain , in which the Brazilians lost 0: 3 [2] . In 1991, he went with the national team to the America's Cup , where he spent 4 games, and the Brazilians took 2nd place [3] . In 1994, Marcio played in the national team at the World Cup , where he spent all 7 games and scored 1 goal (against Cameroon ) [3] [4] . Marcio Santos, the only Brazilian, did not score a penalty shoot-out in Italy , but this did not prevent Brazil from becoming a world champion. In 1997, Marcio went to his second America's Cup , but did not play a single game there. In total, Marcio spent 43 matches for the national team and scored 5 goals [3] .

After a career

After completing his career as a player, Marcio went into business by opening a shopping center in Balneariu Camboriu . On April 19, 2008, Marcio survived a stroke and was admitted to a hospital in Balneariu-Camboriu, but left the hospital after 7 days [5] .
