Mactan ( tagalsk. and eng. Mactan ) is an island in the Philippine province of Cebu , part of the Visayas Islands group. Located near the island of Cebu opposite the city of Cebu .

History
On Mactan in 1521, there was a battle between the Spaniards from the expedition of Fernand Magellan and the local population under the leadership of Lapu-Lapu , during which Magellan was killed.
