The river flows through the counties of Läänemaa , Raplamaa , the township of Lihula , Martna , Kekhtna , Märjamaa , Raikküla , Rapla , Vigala , as well as through the Estonian city of Rapla and many villages.

The river originates in the swamps of the Kaev slave and flows into the larger river Kazari .

The length of the river is 95 km, the basin area is 1520 km².
