History
After the first centralized state appeared on the territory of China - the Qin Empire - then on these lands in 211 BC. e. Guyang County (谷 阳县) was created. In 210 BC e., when Emperor Qin Shihuang went on a trip east, he commanded to make his way through the Jingshashan Mountains, and the county was renamed Dantu (丹徒 县).
In 209, Sun Quan moved his residence to the modern Jingkou area, and a fortification was built here.
During the Sui Empire, in 595, the Rongzhou (润州) region was established, whose authorities were located in the administrative center of Dantu County. During the empire of Song in 1113, it was elevated in status, becoming the Zhenjiang government (镇江 府). After the Xinhai revolution , administrative reform was carried out in China, during which the councils were liquidated.
In 1928, Dantu County was renamed Zhenjiang County.
After the Communists crossed the Yangtze during the civil war in 1949 and proceeded to free the land on the southern coast of the Kuomintang, the Songan Special Administrative Region was formed on April 27, 1949 to control the territories lying south of the Yangtze. In his jurisdiction, in particular, the Zhenjiang Special Region (镇江 专区) was created, which included 1 city and 10 counties (in April 1949, Zhenjiang county was divided into Zhenjiang city and Dantu county). In 1953, the special administrative districts of Subei and Sunan were merged into Jiangsu province, the subordinate authorities of which transferred to the Zhenjiang Special District. In 1954, the city of Zhenjiang became a city of provincial subordination.
In 1956, Wujin County was transferred from the Zhenjiang Special Region to the Suzhou Special Region (苏州 专区), while Yixing County was transferred from the Suzhou Special Region to the Zhenjiang Special Region; Yangzhong County was transferred to the Yangzhou Special Region (扬州 专区), but then returned to the Zhenjiang Special Region; Luhe, Yizheng and Pujiang counties were transferred from the Yangzhou Special Region to the Zhenjiang Special Region, but then they were returned to the Yangzhou Special Region.
In 1958, the authorities of the Zhenjiang Special Region (镇江 专区) moved from Zhenjiang to Changzhou, and the Zhenjiang Special Region was renamed the Changzhou Special Region (常州 专区), which subordinated the cities of Changzhou and Zhenjiang. Jiangin County was transferred under the jurisdiction of the Nanjing authorities, and Dantu County was annexed to Zhenjiang City. Wujin County was transferred from the Suzhou Special Region to the Changzhou Special Region.
In 1959, authorities in the special district returned from Changzhou to Zhenjiang, and the district was renamed. In 1960, Wujin County was annexed to Changzhou City.
In 1962, Changzhou again became a city of provincial subordination, and Wujin County was removed from its jurisdiction and transferred to the Zhenjiang Special Region; Dantu County was recreated, and Jiangning County was returned from Nanjing jurisdiction to the Zhenjiang Special District.
In 1970, the Zhenjiang Special District was renamed to Zhenjiang County (镇江 地区). In 1971, Jiangning County was transferred to Nanjing.
In March 1983, Zhenjiang County was disbanded, and instead urban districts of Zhenjiang and Changzhou were formed ; On the territory of the former city of Zhenjiang, the Urban District and Suburban District were formed. On June 9, 1983, the Urban District was renamed the Jinshan District (金山区), the Beigu District (北 固 создан) was created, and the Suburban District was disbanded. On August 17, 1983, the Jinshan and Beigu districts were reunited into the Urban District, and the Suburban District was re-established.
In October 1984, the Urban District was renamed the Jinkou District, and the Suburban District was renamed the Rongzhou District.
In 1987, Danyang County was transformed into a city county.
In 1994, Yangzhong County was transformed into a city county.
