Red October is a microdistrict in the city of Kirzhach , from 1942 to 2005 - an urban-type settlement in the Kirzhach district of the Vladimir region .

Geography
Red October is located 5 km south of the railway station Kirzhach . Located on the Kirzhach River at the foot of a wooded hill and on its slope. In the south and east are forests.
History
In 1856, a copper-brass factory specializing in the production of household items: samovars , basins , irons , sugar bowls, household buckets, teapots , coffee pots , etc. was founded on the banks of the Kirzhach river five miles below the city ββof the same name . The plant's products were repeatedly exhibited in Russian and European exhibitions , where for high quality and beauty of form 12 times awarded various medals [1] . In 1931, the factory, which at that time was called βRed Octoberβ, was redesigned to produce automotive tractor lighting.
Around the plant grew the village of the same name, which in 1942 was given the status of an urban-type settlement.
In the 1970s, the plant was connected by a railway line to the Kirzhach station , and construction of a five-story building area began in the village. A boiler room and a new school were later built.
In 1992, the Krasny Oktyabr plant, one of the largest enterprises producing auto-lighting fixtures ( headlights , sidelights, streetlights, indicators), was transformed into Avtosvet Plant OJSC.
In 2005, the village of Red October was annexed to the city of Kirzhach , losing its former status and becoming a microdistrict .
Population
According to the All-Union Population Census of 1989, 11.46 thousand people lived in Red October, including 5.24 thousand men and 6.22 thousand women [2] . According to the 2002 All-Russian Population Census, the population of the village was 10.23 thousand people (4.56 thousand men and 5.67 thousand women).

Transport
The microdistrict is connected with the central part of the city by the bus route Red October - CRH (No. 4), Red October - Pishchprom (No. 7), as well as with the microdistrict. Silk Combine by route No. 5 and No. 6, with a microdistrict KIZ by route No. 8.
Education, culture and leisure
OJSC Avtosvet Plant OJSC is the chief and production base of the Kirzhach Engineering College [1] .
Two secondary schools (No. 6 and No. 7). There is a House of Culture, an art school, a children's club "Rovesnik" and a stadium.
Development
In the Red October microdistrict, quarters of old one-two-story houses have been preserved, a five-story house district has been built.
According to the General Development Plan of Kirzhach, it is planned to liquidate the brick factory and develop the liberated territory with 2-4 and 5-story houses [3] .
In Red October there is a bridge over the Kirzhach River. There is a dam downstream. There were plans to make a mini hydroelectric power station out of it.
