Almost nothing is known about Lelian's biography. There is a version that he was either a legate of the XXII First-born Legion, or the governor of Upper Germany . The latter is indicated by the fact that the capital of the uprising was Mogontiaca - the capital of Upper Germany . The sources do not indicate the exact date of the beginning and end of usurpation, but most likely Lelian rebelled against Postumus in February or March 269 . Based on the number of coins with his name, the uprising was to last a maximum of two or three months, after which Lelian's army was defeated, and he himself was probably killed during the siege of Mogontiac by the troops of Postumus .
