History
Designed for the cruise ship “Gwarek” with sailing support, the hull with three masts was built at the shipyard in Gdansk , but in 1999 it was rebuilt into a large sailboat. For this, the vessel was equipped with a classic “ clipper ” type nose with an 11 meter long bowsprit and a sailboat stern . The interior was completely made at the shipyard in the delta of the Rhine and Meuse in July 2000. The prototype of the sailing ship was the famous German five-masted wind -up winchammer “ Preußen ”, created at the beginning of the XX century. But, unlike him, the “Royal Clipper” was created exclusively as a passenger vessel.
The ship is a fleet of the company "Star Clippers", which also includes two twin ships - four-masted Star Clipper and Star Flyer .
During the summer, the “Royal Clipper” travels around the Mediterranean . During the winter, it offers Caribbean trips through the southern part of the Lesser Antilles . Due to its size, it can visit small ports that cannot be accessed by large cruise ships. Transatlantic cruises are available between seasons. [one]
Construction
Equipped with additional diesel and electric (for small and silent running, up to 8 knots) engines that can, when switching, operate on a single-shaft screw . When sailing, the propeller blades change the angle, creating minimal resistance to movement. The deck of the ship is sheathed with a selective tick, and its masts reach a height of 60 meters. The total area of all 42 sails is 5 thousand square meters. [2]
