Born in Buenos Aires . A US citizen since 1991. She studied at the National Institute of Lenguvos Vivas (Buenos Aires). Master's degree (1970) and twice Ph.D. (in mathematics, 1971 and in economic theory, 1975) , University of California (Berkeley). She taught at Harvard (1975-77) and Columbia Universities (since 1977; professor since 1980). In 1985-86. worked as a missionary professor (Professeur Missionaire) at the University of Antilles and Guiana .
