Gary Leon Ridgway , ( Gary Leon Ridgway ; February 18, 1949 , Salt Lake City , Utah , USA ), known as the Green River Killer, is an American serial killer . He committed 49 [1] proven killings of girls and women, from 1982 to 1998. Two decades later, his guilt was proven by DNA analysis . He is one of America's most famous serial killers.

Content
Crimes
During the 1980s and 1990s, Ridgway killed at least 49 women near the cities of Seattle and Tacoma in Washington State . Most of the killings occur in the summer months of 1982-1984. Many of the victims were prostitutes or runaways. The bodies of strangled women without clothes and jewelry he left near the Green River . Most of the victims were killed in his house, pickup or in uninhabited places. Ridgway became a suspect in 1983 after one of the prostitutes told police that during a sexual act Ridgway began to choke her, but she was able to escape and escape. In 1984, he passed a polygraph test , and on April 7, 1987, the police took samples of saliva and hair from him. In 1997, they were subjected to DNA analysis , which gave rise to arrest .
On November 5, 2003, Ridgway stated that he was guilty of 48 murders, of which 42 were on the police list of likely victims of the Green River Assassin. Ridgway indicated the places where the police found the remains of three bodies. Ridgway himself admitted to 62 murders.
On December 18, 2003, Ridgway was sentenced to 48 terms of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole . At the trial, Ridgway cried and apologized to the relatives of the victims.
On February 11, 2011, another trial was held on charges of the maniac in the 49th murder of 20-year-old Rebecca Marrero. His involvement in this crime was proved, the previous sentence remained unchanged.
