Domenico Gagini ( Italian: Domenico Gagini ; 1449 , Ticino - 1492 , Palermo ) - Italian sculptor , representative of the family, many of whom were sculptors and artists who worked during the Middle Ages and Renaissance . The first known representatives of the family were the grandfather of Domenico Beltrame Gagini, as well as his three sons - Pietro (father of Domenico), Giovanni and Pache.
Domenico was born in the village of Bissone (now in the canton of Ticino , Switzerland ), studied in Florence under the guidance of Filippo Brunelleschi . He became the first sculptor of the family to achieve widespread popularity. In 1447, he came to Genoa , where he worked on the sculpture of the dome of the Cathedral of . In 1457, Domenico became one of the court sculptors of King Alfonso of Aragon in Naples .
In 1463 he moved to Palermo , where, along with his sons Antonello and Antonio, he significantly influenced the island's decorative architecture, working as sculptures for many structures. One of the most significant works of Gagini was the decorative decoration of the interior elements of the Cathedral of the city.
Domenico Gagini died in Palermo in 1492 .
