Jinchang

In the era of the Warring States, Yuezhi lived in these places, then the Huns replaced them. During the Han Empire, under Emperor Wu-di Huns, they were defeated by Huo Quibin , and these lands became part of the Han Empire, Panhe (番 和 县) and Litsian (骊 靬 县) counties were created here. Under the Tang Empire, there was Tianbao County (天宝 县). During the time of the Mongol Empire, Yuan, Yongchang Province (永昌 路) existed on these lands.

After the overthrow of the power of the Mongols and the establishment of the Ming empire, the Yunchansky guard (永昌 卫) was created in 1370. Under the Qing Empire, in 1724, military structures were replaced by civilian ones, and the Yunchang guard was transformed into Yongchang County.

In 1949, the Wuwei Special Area (武威 专区) was created, and these lands became part of it. The Jiuquan Special Region ((酒泉 专区) and the Wuwei Special Region were merged into the Zhangye Special Region (张掖 专区) in 1955, but the Wuwei Special Region was recreated in 1961. In 1970, the Wuwei Special Region was renamed to Wuwei County (武威 地区)

In 1982, the Jinchang City District was formed, consisting of Yongchang County and the City District. In 1984, the urban area was transformed into the Jinchuan area.
