Born on July 21, 1804, came from the noblemen of the Smolensk province , the son of Major General Matvey Nikolayevich Yafimovich. He was educated in the Page Corps , after which on April 20, 1823 he was promoted to ensign and assigned to the light number 3 battery of guards horse artillery, in which he served for more than ten years.

He participated in the Polish campaign of 1831 and for the assault on the Warsaw fortifications received the Order of St. Anne of the 4th degree, and for other matters against the Poles of the Order of St. 3rd degree Anna with swords and bow and st. 4th degree Vladimir with a bow and Polish badge of Virtuti Militari 4th degree.

In 1836, Yafimovich was promoted to colonel , and two years later he was appointed commander of the 6th equestrian artillery brigade and equestrian light battery number 11. On April 11, 1843 he was granted the rank of adjutant wing and received the Prussian Order of St. John of Jerusalem, and on December 17 of the following year, for the immaculate length of service for 25 years in officer ranks, he was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree (No. 7156 according to the cavalier list of Grigorovich - Stepanov).

His further service was as follows: on April 7, 1846 he was promoted to major general , with the appointment of His Imperial Majesty in the retinue and with enlistment in the field horse artillery; He was appointed adjutant general on April 11, 1854, promoted to lieutenant general on August 26, 1856, and artillery generals on August 30, 1869.

Among other awards, Yafimovich had the Order of St. Vladimir 3rd degree (1847), St. Stanislav 1st degree (1849), St. Anna of the 1st degree (1851), St. Vladimir 2nd degree (1859), White Eagle (1861) and St. Alexander Nevsky (1864).

Yafimovich died on September 26, 1874 in St. Petersburg , was buried at the Volkov Orthodox Cemetery, was excluded from official lists on October 18.

His brothers: Alexander (retired major general), Vladimir (artillery general, inspector of powder plants), Mikhail (lieutenant general, participant in the Caucasian campaigns ).
