Revision Hatch

Revision hatch - a device for revising and hiding utilities passing underground or indoors. It is used in industrial and domestic conditions, providing unhindered and quick access to communication systems for maintenance or replacement.

The hatch design is a frame with a lid or door. It is installed in an underground well or technological opening in the floor, wall and ceiling, corresponding to the overall dimensions of the product. The frame is fixed with a cement screed or screw fasteners.

History of Revision Hatches

The first hatches appeared in large cities in the middle of the 19th century, where they were used for the inspection of sewer wells located in the department of municipal authorities. Since sewerage and water supply arose much earlier than other communications, the primacy belongs to sewer manholes. At the beginning of the 20th century, the United States and Europe began to massively use electricity for street lighting. There was a need for hatches for the audit of electrical networks in the open.

The shape and size of the lid of the revision device depends on the dimensions of the well. Today, global manufacturers produce small and large hatches of various configurations. In European countries, β€œmanual” hatches of 10x30 cm in size are used, using for servicing shallow wells with metering devices and shutoff valves. Apply hatches of oval, polygonal, rectangular and even triangular shape.

In Russia, round (sewer), square (plumbing) and rectangular (floor) hatches remain in demand. Volumetric prefabricated modifications are used to revise pumping stations, transformers and other bulky equipment.

Sewer hatches

For the audit of heating, plumbing and sewage, underground, sewer manholes are designed. They are mainly made in round shape, but square and rectangular models are produced for walkways from paving slabs. Depending on the material used, they are divided into:

  • plastic;
  • polymer sand;
  • cast iron.

Plastic and polymer-sand hatches are used for pavement areas, park alleys and lawns, since the material does not withstand high loads (up to 1.5 tons). They have a low cost compared to cast iron counterparts, are resistant to temperature extremes (from -60 Β° C to + 60 Β° C) and wear. The service life of plastic hatches is up to 50 years, polymer-sand - over 20 years. Available in different colors.

Cast iron inspection hatches are divided into:

  • trunk - designed for highways, withstanding a load of up to 90 tons;
  • heavy - used for roads with less heavy traffic and loads up to 40 tons;
  • medium - produce for residential areas and surrounding areas;
  • light - set on footpaths and lawns with a load of up to 1.5 tons.

Cast iron hatches serve up to 80 years, resistant to high loads and temperature extremes. Disadvantages - high cost and decent weight, which complicates the transportation and installation.

Indoor hatches

For industrial and domestic premises use revision hatches:

  • floor - designed for the audit of communications laid under the floor;
  • wall-mounted - installed on walls and partitions of various materials, hiding the plumbing, sewer, heating and plumbing systems;
  • ceiling - used for access to electrical wiring, ventilation and exhaust equipment.

Floor Hatches

They are installed in the mounting opening in the floor corresponding to the size of the revision product. For production, aluminum or steel profile is used, less often stainless steel and brass, the cost of which is much higher. They withstand high loads, ensuring the safe location of people and the movement of compact equipment in an installed design.

Depending on the method of opening, floor hatches are divided into:

  • hinged on hinges - open with a steel hinge integrated in the structure. The lid is fixed in the open position by mechanical stops;
  • with gas shock absorbers - the lifting of a large-sized cover with heavy finishing material is facilitated by gas springs;
  • with a removable cover - are divided into two types:
  1. Technical hatches - the design consists of a solid base and a corrugated removable cover made of aluminum sheet with reinforced stiffeners;
  2. Fillable hatches - a removable cover is filled with a lightweight cement screed for subsequent flooring.

Use of floor hatches

Technical modifications are used for installation in fleets, production shops, warehouse and trade pavilions. Hatches with a filling lid are necessary in the pharmacological and food industries, where high demands are placed on sanitary-hygienic standards. They are installed in shopping and entertainment centers and educational institutions, wherever there is a need for an audit of hidden communications.

Hatches with gas springs are widely used in everyday life, being used as cellar or basement covers. With their help, they hide the entrance to the boiler room or household premises located in the basement of the house.

Wall Hatches

They are mounted on walls made of heavy building material (brick, concrete or blocks) and lightweight partitions (plasterboard or wooden). Differ in purpose:

  • hidden - are intended for facing with finishing materials in tone to the main wall covering;
  • open - do not require additional decoration after installation. This category includes plumbing hatches made of metal and plastic. Metal models have a factory anticorrosive coating, which, if necessary, is repainted in a different color.

Depending on the material used for finishing, hidden hatches are divided into:

  • hatches for painting - after installation they are covered with light materials (paint, decorative plaster, self-adhesive film or wallpaper);
  • hatches for tiles - designed for tiling. It is possible to use other finishing materials (porcelain stoneware, laminate, natural marble or stone).

Models for tiles and painting are available with a different way of opening the door, therefore they are divided into:

  • front-hinged - when you press the door from the side of the magnetic-push lock, it slowly comes forward and swings open 180˚, completely opening the revision opening;
  • movable - due to the design feature of the hinge, the door extends and moves to the side without an angular turn. The principle of operation resembles a conventional wardrobe;
  • removable - equipped with a removable door with a safety cable and a carbine for safe operation.

Use of wall hatches

Plumbing hatches are used to access hidden housing and communal metering devices, plumbing and heating wiring. They belong to the budget version of the audit products, therefore they are widely used by developers of residential complexes, educational and medical institutions.

Tiled hatches are installed in bathrooms, bathrooms and kitchens, where tiles or porcelain tiles are used for decoration. They are used to hide pumps and electrical equipment in rooms with a high level of humidity (pools, saunas, car washes, water parks), as they are equipped with a tight seal and a moisture-proof door filler.

Ceiling Hatches

Some manufacturers produce paint hatches designed for installation on the wall and suspended ceiling. Hide electrical wiring, ventilation ducts and exhaust equipment. They are installed in a finished technological opening made of mounting aluminum profile.

With the invention of suspended ceilings, popular among owners of apartments, private houses and country cottages, there was a need for hatches for them. Only recently have manufacturers of audit products developed models for suspended ceilings. The frame is made of an aluminum profile attached to the main ceiling. The door is the same profile on which the film is stretched. The door is fastened to the frame using hooks. Fixation of the hatch on the ceiling is provided by magnetic latches.
