History

The horse-drawn railway from Sochi to the sulfur springs of Matsesta was planned back in 1913 [1] . The branch of the railway from the Matsesta station of the main Tuapse-Sukhum railway was built in 1925 . The length is 3 kilometers.

At first, the railway served vacationers who were treated with hydrogen sulfide waters. In 1936, 16 bath trains ran daily on it [2] . In 1939, trains made stops on Vereshchaginka, Bzuga, the Razdolny junction (against the Voroshilov stop), the “X years of October”, the Matsesta junction and the bathroom building on New Matsesta [3] along the route of the Sochi station to Old Matsesta [3] . Later, it became freight traffic and was intended for the delivery of fuel oil for boiler houses in the buildings of the Matsesta resort at hydrogen sulfide sources. The trains were transported mineral water from the Matsesta wells to the spa facilities of the city.

Line Description

Moving Cheltenham Alley. Traffic light visible in the distance

Nowadays, the railway track from Matsesta station to moving with Cheltenham Alley is completely preserved. Further, in most places, the rails are removed, but sleepers remain. However, somewhere the canvas is asphalted. Masts of the contact network are almost gone. In 2009, power transmission towers were installed in their place.
