Khotan ( Chinese р 河 , pinyin : Hétián hé ) is a river in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China , in Kashgar, the right tributary of Tarim . The average water flow rate is 142 m³ / s.

Formed by the confluence of the Karakash and Yurunkash rivers, originating in the west of Kunlun . The length from the source of the Karakash River is 1035 km, the catchment area is 43,600 km². It crosses the Takla-Makan desert in a wide valley covered with tugai woodlands . Most of the runoff is used for irrigation of the Khotan oasis. Within the Takla-Makan desert, the Khotan channel is filled with water only during floods (July - August). In dry years, the waters of Khotan do not reach Tarim.
