Research
In the course of research conducted at Yale University with the help of a telescope of the National Observatory of Optical Astronomy , strands of warm gas (mainly ionized hydrogen ) were found, forming a jumper between the galaxy NGC 4438 and the galaxy M 86.
It is assumed that the threads formed as a result of high-speed collisions of galaxies (M 86 is much heavier than NGC 4438). As a result of such a collision, the interstellar gas is heated, which prevents the formation of stable gas clusters, from which new stars could later form [3] .
