Messier 85 ( English M 85 , NGC 4382 , Russian Messier 85 , other designations - UGC 7508, MCG 3-32-29, KCPG 334A, ZWG 99.45, VCC 798, PGC 40515) is a galaxy in the constellation Volos of Veronica . It was discovered by Pierre Meshen in 1781. Located at a distance of 60 million light years [1] . The diameter of the galaxy is estimated at 125,000 light years.
According to indirect methods, it is assumed that in the center of the galaxy there must be a supermassive black hole with a mass of about 100 million solar masses [4] , but according to estimates of the velocity dispersion, the central supermassive black hole in the galaxy may also be absent [5] .
In this galaxy, short flares are observed in the optical range of an obscure nature [6] .
It has a satellite galaxy M85-HCC1 .
