Biography
Anatoly Obukhov was born in St. Petersburg in the family of artillery general Nikolai Platonovich Obukhov and the maid of honor of the courtyard of Nadezhda Petrovna Obukhova, nee Nadezhda Gendrikova.
After graduating from the St. Petersburg Theater School (teachers Mikhail Obukhov and Nikolai Legat ) from 1913 to 1920, Anatoly Obukhov performed the roles in the Mariinsky Theater : Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty , Siegfried in Swan Lake and Zephyr in Flora Awakening . Among his parties were:
- Lucien in The Butterfly ;
- Albert in Giselle ;
- Slave ( Egyptian Nights );
- Basil ( Don Quixote );
- Prince Desiree ( Sleeping Beauty );
- Jean de Brienne ( Raymonda );
- Damis ("Test of Damis");
- Harlequin ( Harlequinade );
- Young man (" Chopeniana ").
The classical dancer, Anatoly Obukhov, was distinguished by stability of rotation, virtuoso technique of small movements, embossed poses, and soft plasticity [1] . He was a partner of Anna Pavlova in 1914 during her tour in Russia [2] .
In 1920 , he first emigrated to Bucharest , where he performed at the Bucharest Opera House in 1922. Then, at the invitation of B. G. Romanov, he worked until 1926 in a troupe called the Russian Romantic Theater , which settled in Berlin .
Together with Anton Dolin and his wife Vera Nemchinova, he founded the troupe Nemchinova-Dolin Balle, with which he toured in London from 1927 to 1928. He was an artist of the Lithuanian Opera ( Kaunas , 1930-1934), performed in the troupes Russian Ballet of Monte Carlo , 1935-1939) and Original Russian Ballet ”(1939-1940).
From 1940 to 1962 - teacher of the ballet school at the troupe of the New York City Ballet (New York City Ballet), among his students: John Taras and A. Mitchel .
