Service
In service in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR since 1961 . In 1965 he graduated from the Ordzhonikidze Military School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR . He served in Siberia and the Ukrainian SSR , platoon commander, deputy commander and company commander . In 1973 he graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze . He held the posts of battalion commander, deputy regiment commander, in 1978 - 1980 - chief of staff of the brigade of the Internal Troops in Barnaul . Then he commanded a regiment, a brigade, the chief of staff of the division , the commander of the division in Siberia and Transcaucasia . He participated in the suppression of ethnic conflicts in Georgia and in Sumgait in 1988 (seriously wounded by a stone thrown from the crowd). In 1991, he was appointed chief of staff of the Office of Internal Forces in the Ukrainian SSR and the Moldavian SSR . Since 1993 - Chief of Staff of the North Caucasian District of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Participation in the First Chechen War and death
After severely injuring his predecessor, in 1995 he was appointed deputy commander of the North Caucasian District of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. He took part in the events of the first Chechen war on the territory of the Chechen Republic, the head of the tactical group of the explosives.
In July 1996, he led the operation to destroy a large armed group of Chechen separatists under the command of the field commander Doku Makhayev in the vicinity of the village of Gekhi, Urus-Martan district of Chechnya . At about 7 a.m. on July 11, 1996, during an detour of troops at the blocking lines of the village, an armored personnel carrier , followed by Major General Skrypnik, was blown up on a radio-controlled landmine . As a result of the explosion, the general was seriously injured with two officers, the driver of the armored personnel carrier was killed. Major General Skrypnik in an unconscious state was rushed by helicopter to the Vladikavkaz hospital for medical assistance. The efforts of the doctors were in vain, less than an hour after being taken to the hospital, General Skrypnik died without regaining consciousness.
He was buried in Rostov-on-Don on the avenue of Heroes of the Northern Cemetery.
