Prime Minister of Northern Rhodesia
Initially, the post of head of government in the country was introduced on January 21, 1964 , when the protectorate of Great Britain Northern Rhodesia received the right of self-government. The only Prime Minister of the protectorate ( Prime Minister of Northern Rhodesia ) was Kenneth Kaunda , leader of the national independence movement.

List of Zambian Prime Ministers
On October 24, 1964 , Northern Rhodesia became independent and received its modern name. It was proclaimed a presidential republic , whose government was directly subordinate to its president .
In 1972, the country was introduced, and before the first multi-party elections of 1991 There was a one-party system with the ruling United National Independence Party . In accordance with the 1973 Constitution, the post of prime minister as head of government was reinstated, but after the introduction of the multi-party system in 1991, it was again abolished.
