History
USSR
Under T.D. Lysenko
In 1935–1941, it was published under the name “Yarovization” . In 1941-1945 the journal was not published. In the years 1946-1965 was published under the name "Agrobiology" . At this time, the publication of the journal was completely under the control of T. D. Lysenko , who was the permanent chief editor, and his closest assistants and followers, who acted as deputies and secretaries of the editorial board ( I. I. Present , I. E. Glushchenko , I. S. Varuntsyan , F. A. Dvoryankin , I. A. Khalifman ). Even after the editorial board was introduced in 1954, it consisted entirely of Lysenkoists . [2] According to A. Kupriyanov, “an incomplete list of authors of the articles of“ Yarovization ”numbers about four hundred people, and“ Agrobiology ”is more than two thousand.” [2]
In the late 1940s – 1960s, in connection with the fact that supporters of Michurin agrobiology began to engage in “creative understanding” of the achievements of molecular biology, translations of articles and excerpts of books of classics of genetics, as well as authorized and unauthorized translations of articles on the role of DNA in the transformation of pneumococci such foreign scientists as O. T. Avery , K. M. Mac-Leod and M. Mac-Carti, a number of texts by E. Chargaff . Also in order of controversy, a critical review of S. Auerbach was published on the English edition of Radiation Genetics by N. P. Dubinin . JV Stalin's speeches on direct non-biology issues and official documents were published in the journal. Also on the pages of the publication has found a place a large number of articles on soil microbiology. [2]
The initial circulation of the journal was 5 thousand copies, although it was soon about 12-13 thousand. In 1939, when TD Lysenko was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the circulation had already grown to 20 thousand copies. At the same time, there was an interesting feature: if in previous years apologies were made on the last pages of the rooms to those readers who could not have enough of a magazine, then after the circulation was increased, the editorial office was forced to post announcements about the sale of unnecessary copies. By the beginning of 1940, the circulation fell to 13-14 thousand, which is possible and consistent with the number of subscribers and readers. And in the post-war years, circulation mostly fluctuated between 8,000 and 12,000 copies. [2]
After T.D. Lysenko
Since 1966 - "Agricultural Biology" [1] . The frequency was 6 times a year [1] . In 1975, the circulation was 7,500 copies [1] .
The journal highlighted "the latest achievements in the field of genetics and plant breeding and farm animals, microbiology, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology, virology and other branches of biological science" [1] .
