Vik ( Nor. Viken - “bay, bay”) is a historical region of Norway in the vicinity of the Oslo Fjord in southeastern Norway. The cultural center was located in Oslo , but Borre was formerly the capital of the region. The region included the historical provinces of Westfall , Estfall , and Ranriki , Wingulmark and Bohuslän . In the era of the Great Migration, Vick was a highly fortified region.
There is a theory that the word “ viking ” (víkingr) originally meant “a person from Vick”, and only later it was used in a broader sense, meaning all early medieval Scandinavians. However, in all medieval sources, the inhabitants of Vic are called not “Vikings”, but otherwise - vikverjar or vestfaldingi (from Westfall) [1] .
