History
In ancient times, the state of Puyo was located on these lands.
At the beginning of the Qing era, the Fudutun Bodin (伯 都 讷) staked here, subordinated to Jiangjun Ninguty, is one of the 7 most important strongholds outside the Willow Palisade. In 1682, the Bodin postal station was built, located on an important route connecting Ninguta jiangjun with Qiqikar . In 1693, 20 li south of the Bodin postal station, a new town was built, called the “New Bodin Town” (伯 都 讷 新城). In 1811, the Bodinsky Commissariat (伯 都 讷 厅) was established, the authorities of which settled in the “New Town of Bodin”, and a subordinate bailiff was placed in the village of Yushutun. After the liquidation of the Jiangjun and Fudutun structures in 1906 and the introduction of a civil administration system, these lands became part of Jilin Province; The Bodinsky Commissariat was raised in status to the Xincheng Council (新 城府), and around the village of Yushutun was formed the county of Yushu (в), into the apparatus of which the bailiff was transformed.
After the Xinhai Revolution in China, the administrative division system was reformed, during which administrations were liquidated, and in 1913, Xincheng administration was transformed into Xincheng county (城县). Since it turned out that there are already counties with the exact same name in Hebei and Shandong provinces, in 1914 Xincheng County was renamed Fuyui County (扶余县).
In 1956, the Gongzhuling Special District (区 专区) was formed, and these lands became part of it. In 1958, they were transferred to the Beicheng Special District (白城 专区). In 1987, Fuyu County was promoted to city district.
In 1992, the city council of Songyuan was established by a resolution of the State Council of the People's Republic of China; however, Fuyu City County was liquidated, and its territory became the Fuyu (区) district of Songyuan City District. In 1995, a resolution of the State Council of the People's Republic of China from a part of the Fuyu district re-established the Fuyu county, and the remaining part of the Fuyu district became the Ningjiang district.
On January 24, 2013, Fuyu County was transformed into a city county by the decision of the PRC State Council
