The great Ayatollah Sayyid Hossein Casemaini Borujerdi ( Pers. سيد حسين كاظمينی بروجردی , p. 1958) is an Iranian Shiite theologian, margiah and mystic [1] , known as a supporter of the separation of religion from the state.

Biography
Hosseini Casemaini Boroujerdi was born in August 1958 [2] , his father was Ayatollah Seyid Mohammad-Ali Casemaini Boroujerdi [3] . He received his primary education in the city of Borujerd , in western Iran, and the main one in the holy Shiite city of Qom , where he studied under a number of leading theologians, including the great Ayatollah Marashi Najafi . He began his religious activities at the age of twenty, shortly after the Islamic Revolution, in 1979.
Beginning in 1995, Borujerdi Jr. was somewhat delayed and imprisoned, where he was repeatedly tortured [4] . From October 8, 2006 to the present, he is in custody.
Theological Views and Opposition
Ayatollah Borujerdi considers theocratic regime illegal and advocates the separation of religion from the state. In one of his sermons, he said:
| The traditional interpretation of Islam involves the separation of religion from politics. |
He states that
| Iranians tired of political religion and political slogans |

| Iranians are loyal to the foundations of true religion and the mission of the prophet, but they are against the politicization of religion and its exploitation by a group of people who have nothing to do with true Islam [5] |
Burujerdi is a supporter of religious pluralism and the equal rights of men and women. He advocates the development of friendly relations with Israel , and the establishment of global peace.
For the first time, Ayatollah Borujerdi expressed his opposition to the ruling regime in Iran in 1994. He is the author of messages to Pope Benedict XVI and the leadership of the European Union , in which he spoke of suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of his father in 2002, and the harassment of his supporters by the Iranian authorities.
Also, the authorship of Burujerdi belongs to the work “Risal-e-Azadi” ( “The Treatise of Freedom” ) [6] , which is a refutation of the concept of “Vilayat-e-fakih”.
Arrest and Detention
In October 2006, the Iranian government issued an arrest warrant for Borujerdi. Trying to protect him, supporters and followers established round-the-clock duty in his house [7] . On October 7, more than a thousand of his supporters gathered outside the Ayatollah’s house, who prevented the arrest of Borujerdi, chanting:
| Freedom is our undeniable right. |
The next day, the Iranian security forces, using force, arrested Boroujerdi himself and several hundred of his supporters, including 172 women and 225 men.
In June 2007, a special court of clergy sentenced Borudzherdy to death , but after, as a result of international pressure and appeals, the sentence was changed to 11 years in prison.
