Vasily Yakovlevich Amashukeli ( Georgian სასილ იაკობის ძე ამაშუკელი , March 14, 1886, Kutaisi - December 1, 1977 , Tbilisi ) - Russian and Georgian film director, one of the first figures of Russian cinema. People's Artist of the Georgian SSR (1974).

Biography
He worked as a mechanic in a cinema in Baku. In 1907, Vasily Amashukeli made several films in Baku about the production of Baku oil: “ Transportation of coal ”, “Work at oil refineries” and “Oil recovery”. In addition, in the same year he shot a short documentary “ Types of Baku Bazaars ” and the film “ Walking along the beach ”(not preserved). There is a document dated May 15, 1908 , to Amashukeli from the director of the printing house with a request to allow the printing house workers to attend film shows for free. This day is marked as the date of the appearance of Georgian cinema [1] .
He also directed several films between 1908 and 1912: Nakhet tqveni sakhe, Kutaisi Landscapes, Kutaisi Park ( 1911 ) and Akaki Tsereteli 's Travel to Racha-Lechkhumi ( 1912 ). The last film was his only feature film. [2] The film shows the journey of Akaki Tsereteli in the mountainous regions of Imereti. It is alleged that Tsereteli himself took an active part in making the film and spoke highly of it [3] . Of the 1500 meters of film film, only about 400 meters were preserved [4] .
