Tanaelv

Tanaelv [1] , Tana ( Norwegian. Tanaelva , Swede. Tana älv ), or Tenojoki [2] ( Fin. Tenojoki , Fin. Teno or Saami. Deatnu ) - a river flowing along the border between Norway and Finland ( Finnmark fülke) and Lapland , respectively). In Sami, the name means “big river”. The fifth longest river in Norway [3] .

Hydrography

Formed by the confluence of the rivers ( Fin. Inarijoki ; Norwegian. Anarjohka , Anaryokka ) and ( Norwegian. Karasjohka ; S.-Sami. Kárášjohka , Karasjokka). The confluence is located 12 km east of the Norwegian city of Karasjok . The river gave the name to the Norwegian commune , through which it flows. The river is known among anglers for its large salmon . In 1929, Atlantic salmon was caught here with a record weight of 36 kg. In 2013, the appearance of “Russian salmon” atypical for Finland and Norway was noted in the river, which is associated with ongoing global climate changes [4] . The river flows into the . History

In 1945, the General Staff of the Red Army, which defeated Nazi troops in Norway, raised the question of moving the border of the Soviet Union west to the River Tana in order to correct the provisions of the 1826 Convention, which were inconvenient for the USSR, but they were left without further action [5] . In response, in 1949, Norway joined NATO .
