The last post is the commander of the 42nd Army Corps in the North Caucasus Military District . The headquarters of the corps was stationed in Vladikavkaz . Corps units were at the epicenter of the Ossetian-Ingush ethnic conflict . Both warring parties attacked military units and depots and took hostages hostage. Major General Koretsky actively participated in the negotiations on the release of the hostages and in attempts to peacefully resolve the conflict, while opposing attempts to use military units against any of the conflicting parties.

On August 1, 1993, together with the head of the Provisional Administration in the conflict zone, Viktor Polyanichko, General Koretsky went to negotiate with the Ingush field commanders. In a suburb of Vladikavkaz, in the vicinity of the village of Tarskoye in the Prigorodny district of North Ossetia , the car was shot at from an ambush by unknown people. In addition to General Koretsky, Viktor Polyanichko and an officer of the Alpha anti-terrorist group of the Main Directorate of Security of the Federal Grid of Russia, Senior Lieutenant Viktor Kravchuk, were killed. In the body of each of the dead more than 10 gunshot wounds were found. Four more soldiers were injured.

He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery [1] in Moscow .

Investigation

The murder remained unsolved. In 2000, information was published that the FSB of Russia suspected of committing a crime of the captured field commander of one of the Chechen illegal units Yuri Hitskiev [2] . However, then nothing was announced about the trial of Khitskiev.

  • Medals of the USSR.

Perpetuation of memory
