Biography
Saint Amalberg was born in 741 in the city of Ardem near Luxembourg. At an early age she entered the Benedictine monastery near the town of Bilsen . Her beauty and spiritual virtues attracted the Frankish king Pepin Korotky and his son Karl, the future emperor Karl the Great , who for several years came to her in the hope that she would leave the monastery. However, Amalberg remained faithful to her monastic vocation.
Saint Amalberg founded the Church of St. Mary of the Virgin in the city of Thames.
Saint Amalberg is depicted in iconography holding a Bible and a crucifix; near her legs is a fish. Saint Amalberg of Thames should not be confused with Saint Amalberg of Mobierz .
