Kaohsiung County ( Chinese trad. 縣 , Pinyin : Gāoxióng xiàn ) - a former county in southern Taiwan , in 2010 merged into a single administrative unit with the city of Kaohsiung . The capital and largest city of the county is Feng Shan city. The county bordered the cities of Kaohsiung and Tainan and the counties of Pingtung , Taitung , Hualien , Nantou and Chiayi . In the southwest, the county was washed by the Taiwan Strait .

Population
1,238,858 people lived in the county, of which 640,989 men and 597,869 women.
Climate
- The average annual air temperature is 25 ° С (12 ° С in mountainous areas).
- The average annual rainfall is 1493.5 mm. The greatest amount of precipitation falls in the period from June to September.
History
For a long time it was the land of the Sirai people. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Dutch came here, and in 1661 Zheng Chenggong knocked out the Dutch from Taiwan and created the state of the Zheng family . In 1683, Zheng Keshuang capitulated to the Qing Empire, and these lands became part of Fenshan County (凤山县) in Fujian Province.
In 1895, Taiwan was transferred to Japan , and the Japanese established their system of administrative-territorial division.
After Japan’s capitulation in 1945, Taiwan was returned to the jurisdiction of China, and Kaohsiung County was established on these lands.
In 2010, the territory of the county suffered from a strong earthquake .
