Story
The film takes place in a good and fun fairytale city. Among the inhabitants of this city, sometimes bad people came across, thinking only of themselves and causing everyone troubles and inconveniences. They allow themselves to do work through their sleeves. Shameless private doctor-charlatan Crax prescribed sick girl Tate an unfit medicine for a lot of money. Neighboring boy Vasya deliberately does not let her fall asleep, playing loudly in the hall with a ball.
The city wizard turns negligent people into dolls and sells them among ordinary toys in his store. Three bewitched dolls - a lazy cook, Vasya and a tumbler-manager, tumbler Maria Ivanovna, meet in Tata's room. Having heard the verdict from potions and medicines, and now only cucurequin can help the girl - a medicine from the morning cries of roosters for gargling, three dolls decide to go to Crax, and then to the pharmacy for a miraculous remedy. Another enchanted doll helps them along the way - a taxi driver, Valentina.
Thanks to their intervention, Tata got to her feet. The wizard restored the human appearance to the dolls, and the hopeless Dr. Crax was turned into a pouted rubber freak who burst right there.

Differences from the book
The film, in comparison with the story, is very simplified and presented in theatrical style: a cartoonized facade and the interior of a coffee machine where the cook worked, and no less cartoonized interiors of Tata’s apartment and pharmacy. The plot unfolds in the imagination of a boy reading a book. The main focus of the film is on puppet animation.
- In the film, the city where the events take place is referred to as “ quite the way you live in, reader, and at the same time not quite like that ”, while in the book it is Moscow . The text refers to real places like Patriarch's Ponds .
- In the film, her grandmother takes care of Tata, and in the book, her mother.
- In the film, the girl Lilya, who lives next door to Tata and plays the piano, was replaced by the boy Vasya, who played the ball loudly.
- The main difference is the absence of a joke in the name of the wizard, who is not called by name in the film. In the book, when he calls Tata’s apartment, and Lily asks: “ Who is it? ", The Wizard introduces herself to her as" Moges . " Lilya lets him in, taking him as a fitter, since “MOGES” or “SHPP” - so until 1956 it was called HES-1 .
- In the book, the housekeeper is called Alla Pavlovna, and in the film, Maria Ivanovna.
- Not only Valentina, but all the other dolls get into the police.
- In the film, the main goal of the search was cucurequin. In the book, he is only mentioned by an elderly pharmacist, and the goal of the search is aspirin and confettin-serpentine, which was a magical medicine.
