International Youth Nuclear Congress

The International Youth Nuclear Congress ( IYNC - an abbreviation of English. International Youth Nuclear Congress ) is an international network public organization uniting a young generation of specialists involved in nuclear technology. IYNC was founded in April 2000, during the Congress in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The main goal of the organization is the transfer of knowledge and experience in the field of peaceful nuclear technologies to a new generation of specialists. The main activity of IYNC is the organization of general conferences (also called Congresses), held once every two years in various countries of the world. In addition, between the General Congresses, the IYNC conducts activities aimed at exchanging views between young nuclear specialists, promoting peaceful nuclear technologies, nuclear education and international cooperation.

Mission, Goals and Tasks

The IYNC mission is formulated in the Charter, according to which the International Youth Nuclear Congress is founded in order to:

  • to develop new approaches in highlighting the advantages of atomic energy and its role in the energy balance;
  • to promote the continued peaceful use of nuclear science and technology for the benefit of humanity;
  • transfer knowledge and experience from the current generation of leading scientists to the next generation, across national borders.

The IYNC is a forum for presenting scientific, political, social, and corporate views regarding the development of various issues in the nuclear industry in order to provide a comprehensive discussion of this subject. Since it is the youth that will have to deal with all the prospects and problems in the future, IYNC welcomes their open discussion by the current young generation of specialists.

The issues discussed at conferences include: design, construction, construction, operation and safety of nuclear power plants ; nuclear fuel cycle ; nuclear materials; thermal hydraulics; radiation research; nuclear technology in medicine; nuclear policy, economics and human resource management; thermonuclear power ; as well as activities of youth nuclear organizations

The IYNC motto is “ Youth, Future, Nuclear .” The IYNC logo is a stylized globe with colored orbits.

History

The idea of ​​creating an international organization of young nuclear specialists was first seriously discussed at a meeting of young members of nuclear societies in Russia and the United States in 1997. At the international forum "Youth and the Problem of Plutonium", held in the summer of 1998 in Obninsk , participants from different countries confirmed their interest in the new organization. In autumn 1998, during the European Nuclear Congress in Nice, the first organizational meeting of IYNC was held, in which representatives of Russia, France, the United States and Slovakia took part.

The first IYNC2000 Congress was held in April 2000 in the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava . He gathered more than 280 participants, of which almost 100 were from Russia. Congress has received approval and support from government organizations, including the IAEA , large nuclear companies, and universities. During the first IYNC2000 Congress in Bratislava, at the organizational session, the international network public organization IYNC was established.

From the first meeting in Bratislava, a rule was established to determine the venue of the next Congress at the end of the current one. Since 2004, the choice of the venue for the next General Congress has been made by a vote of the Board of Directors, based on a competitive evaluation of applications and presentations of applicants.

The IYNC2002 Congress was held in April 2002 in South Korea, the city of Daejeon , on the basis of the KAERI Institute. It brought together about 230 participants from 40 countries. The words “ World of Opportunities ” became the motto of IYNC2002.

The IYNC2004 Congress was held in May 2004 in Toronto , Canada. It was attended by about 290 specialists, graduate students, students, who presented almost 200 reports.

The IYNC2006 Congress was organized by a joint team of Swedish and Finnish young nuclear scientists, and was held in Stockholm , Sweden and Olkiluoto , Finland, in June 2006. IYNC2006 brought together more than 350 participants

The IYNC2008 Congress was held in the Swiss city of Interlaken in September 2008. The dates of its holding were agreed with the largest scientific conference on physics of nuclear reactors Physor2008, held in the same place. IYNC2008 brought together more than 330 participants from 30 countries.

The IYNC2010 Congress was held in South Africa, in the city of Cape Town , in July 2010. It began on the day of the final of the World Cup .

IYNC2012 Congress was held in the USA, in the city of Charlotte

IYNC2014 Congress took place in Spain, in the historical city of Burgos

IYNC2016 Congress was held in Hangzhou, China

In 2018, the congress will be held in Argentina, in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche.

In addition to the General Congresses, with the participation of IYNC, the European Nuclear Young Generation Forum was held in 2005 in the Croatian Zagreb ; in 2007 - in the Dutch Amsterdam ; in 2009 - in Spanish Cordoba ,

in 2011 - in Prague, in 2013 - in Stockholm, in 2015 in Paris and in 2017 in Manchester

Structure and Organizational Basics

The structure and organizational foundations of the IYNC are described in the Charter of the organization.

Membership

IYNC does not imply fixed membership. An IYNC participant is any person participating in IYNC events, supporting her goals, interested in her activities

Office

The IYNC is managed by the Board of Directors, which includes National Representatives, up to an additional 20 members (Members At-Large), as well as several elected officers. Council members are elected for up to 2 years.

Among the official years is the Network President, who is elected at the organizational session. He performs general managerial functions. The current IYNC Network President is Hans Korteweg.
