Translated from the Ugaritic word mot means death . God Mot embodied all aspects and forms of death. The expression “being swallowed by Mot” or “eaten by Mot” meant that someone had passed away. In mythology, Ugarita Mot is the main opponent of Baal , who, however, is not able to defeat. Their antagonism also reflects a one-year agricultural cycle: Baal provides a rainy period for seed germination and plant growth, Mot is responsible for dry summers and grain ripening. Thus, Mot was also the deity of fruit ripening and harvest.
Little is known about the cult of the god Mot and the rituals of worshiping him.
