History
The cavalry army was used to perform major operational and strategic tasks, was the main striking force in the theater of war and the main means of developing the success of the RSFSR Supreme Soviet during the Civil War [1] .
For the first time the formation of this type was formed in November 1919 in the Red Army. At different periods, the spacecraft included command, three to four cavalry divisions , 5,500 to 18,000 personnel (including more than 3/4 horsemen ), 250 to 350 machine guns , up to 55 guns, 36 armored vehicles , 5 armored trains , 15 aircraft .

Composition
The cavalry army consisted of: command, three - four cavalry divisions and sometimes a separate cavalry brigade; in separate periods of hostilities, one or two cavalry divisions were additionally attached to the cavalry armies. In addition, it was strengthened by aviation , armor units and technical communications; in its operational subordination, there were two operations in some operations — three rifle divisions . The combat and strength of the cavalry armies was variable. For example, in 1920, the 1st cavalry army had from 14 to 26 thousand fighters (from 9 to 16 thousand sabers), the 2nd cavalry army - from 5 to 21 thousand fighters (from three to 8 thousand sabers).
Statewide, dated December 30, 1919, the Field Administration of the Cavalry Army included: RVS ( commander and two members of the RVS), political department , revolutionary military tribunal , special department , military censorship department, army headquarters (directorate, administrative, aviation and aeronautics, communications), the office of the representative of the head of military communications of the front, the office - the head of supplies, sanitary unit, veterinary unit, treasury.
The order of the South-Western Front dated July 6, 1920 declared a new state of the cavalry army, according to which an inspection of cavalry , artillery and directorate of the head of the arms (engineers, armor units, automobile control, military communications) was established in its Field Office. For the same state formed the Field Administration formed the 2nd Cavalry Army.
