Da Costa style
The style in which Costa worked in competitions combines strength, flexibility, good technique and fighting spirit. Being left-handed, Costa worked in a right-handed stance, often keeping his palms open. His style became more aggressive at the 1987 World Cup. An interesting feature of da Costa's fighting style was the use of a yoko-geri strike with his left foot, which is extremely rare in competitions. To perform this strike, Costa carried the knee of the left foot to the right shoulder, after which he performed the strike with a simultaneous turn to the opponent with his left side. Such a turn significantly increased the impact force.
Hyakunin-kumite
Ademir da Costa passed the hyakunin-kumite on April 25, 1987. Preparation for it began a year before the test. Every day he ran a five-kilometer cross and every week spent 50 fights in a row. The schedule of each battle in the hyakunin was set in two minutes. Yes, Costa set himself the task of winning as many fights as possible by knockout , in order to reduce the total time of the test. His battles were complicated by the fact that those of his opponents who could knock him out were promised an extraordinary belt. Nevertheless, Ademir da Costa successfully survived all fights, winning 74 battles in ippon and reducing 26 fights to a draw. The total test time was 2 hours 50 minutes. According to da Costa, this was the most severe test in his life: “For two days I was placed in a hospital and for another whole week my urine was red with blood. I was sick of even drinking water. I suffered from internal hematomas in the stomach, liver and spleen ” [2] .
Ademir da Costa is the only, in addition to Oyama himself, the person who passed the kumite hyakunin, whose student also passed the kumite hyakunin [3] .
Seywakai
After the death of Masutatsu Oyama and the split of the IKO organization that he created, da Costa remained in IKO under the leadership of Shokey Matsui , but left this organization in 1996, creating his own Seywakai style and the Seywakai International Organization. This organization is not of great international importance and is represented mainly in Brazil. There are small representative offices in Russia, the USA , Japan and a number of Latin American countries.
Currently, Ademir da Costa teaches karate in several countries, including Japan and Russia.
