Asker ( Nor. Asker ), a commune in the county of Akershus , Norway , is part of the historic Vic region. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Asker. Asker was created as a municipality on January 1, 1838.

General Information
Title
The municipality is named after the old Asker farm, as the first church was built here. Name Staronorv . Askar indicates the plural, and means ash .
Coat of Arms
The coat of arms was received on October 7, 1975 .
Culture
Although Asker is a rural municipality, the expansion of Oslo led to its becoming a wealthy suburb. Thus, numerous celebrities currently reside in the area. According to Statistics Norway, Asker is the 2nd richest municipality in Norway based on average household income.
Mod
In 1916-1917, the ship Mod was built in a local shipyard, and was launched to Oslo. It was built specifically for the Amundsen expedition and was supposed to sail through the Northeast Passage. In 1930, the ship sank near the island of Victoria in Canada, in 1990, Asker commune bought it for lifting and returning to Norway. It was possible to raise the ship only at the end of the summer of 2016, the exact date of its return to Norway was not determined.
