The tree is 12-30 m high. The crown is thick, spreading.
The bark is coarse, sometimes scaly, brittle, on old trees very thick and deeply furrowed.
Young leaves are opposite, in a large number of pairs, sessile or stalk-bearing, narrowly ovoid or widely lanceolate, 2.5-8.5 cm long, 1-4.5 cm wide, pale green, sometimes bluish. The adult leaves are alternate, glossy, petiolate , narrowly lanceolate or sickle-shaped, 9-30 cm long, 1-2.5 cm wide, shortly pointed.
Umbrellas are axillary, 4-8- flowered , peduncles rounded or slightly angular, 5-12 mm long; buds are sessile, cylindrical or ovoid, 10 mm long, 5 mm in diameter, shiny, angular, with a conical cap equal to the length of the cup tube. Anthers obovate, notched, opening in parallel slots; the ovoid gland is large.
Fruits on the legs, hemispherical or almost spherical, 5 mm long, 6 mm in diameter, with a small disc and 3-4 short-protruding cusps.
Plants bloom in their homeland in September-October, and plants bloom in April-July on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus .
Distribution and Ecology
Representatives of the species grow in the southeastern part of the central plateau of New South Wales at altitudes from 600 to 700 m above sea level.
It grows well in deep, rich and moderately moist soils. On periodically drying clay, heavy clay and podzolic soils, as well as on clay slopes, it grows moderately or even slowly, developing into small, often bushy trees. In Adjara, this species reaches a larger size than at home. In Buknari, on red-earth soils, 40–45-year-old trees reached 30–35 m in height, with a trunk diameter of 70–90 cm.
Withstands temperatures of −12 ... −11 ° C without significant damage; during prolonged frosts at −11 ... −9 ° C it completely freezes.
Crosses easily with other species. There are natural hybrids with Eucalyptus rod-shaped and Eucalyptus ovoid ; Hybrids with bleached Eucalyptus , Eucalyptus Kamaldulsky are artificially obtained.
Meaning and Application
Light, fragile wood, poorly cracking, cracking during drying, low value.
Casts contain essential oil (0.21%), consisting of geranyl acetate (up to 60%), geraniol (3-7%), pinene and eudesmole .
