Biography
Born on January 17, 1941 in the village of Vasilkovo, Rostov Region, Yaroslavl Region, in a military family. In Moscow since 1958.
He graduated from the Moscow State Historical and Archival Institute in 1963. Among the teachers are Sigurd Ottovich Schmidt and Vladimir Evgenievich Illeritsky .
Since 1968, he taught at MGIAI (later the Russian State Humanitarian University ): assistant (1969-1970), senior lecturer (1970-1972), associate professor (1972-1988), since 1989 - professor at the Department of Russian History of the Pre-Soviet Period. In 1969 he defended his thesis “Theories of feudalism in Russia in Russian historiography of the late XIX - early XX centuries” In 1989, his doctoral dissertation “Soviet historiography of the revolution of 1905-1907 in Russia”. In 1987-1989, he was vice-rector for scientific work at MGIAI. Since 1990, he headed the Department of Auxiliary Historical Disciplines (later - the Department of Source Studies and Auxiliary Historical Disciplines of the IAI of the Russian State Humanitarian University).
Muravyov actively participated in the development of the concept of the Russian State University for the Humanities. In 1991, he was one of the leaders of the “professorial front”, who (with the support of students) achieved the preservation of the Historical and Archival Institute as a separate unit within the framework of the Russian State Humanitarian University that was created on its basis. This predetermined the further development of the RSUH according to a three-level model of structure (university-institute-faculty).
He was buried in Moscow at the Mitinsky cemetery [1] .
Scientific and teaching activities
The scientific interests of Viktor Alexandrovich covered primarily the history of historical science and social thought in Russia of the 18th-20th centuries, the history of the revolutionary movement in Russia, the historical geography of Russia, source study and other auxiliary historical disciplines .
He lectured on “History of historical science”, “Theory and methodology of history”, “Historical geography”, “Historical geography of Russia”, “Historical geography of Europe”.
He participated in a number of international congresses, conferences, symposia of historians ( Russia , Great Britain , Greece , Finland ). He gave lecture courses at a number of universities in the USSR and Russia, at South Danish and Copenhagen universities ( Denmark ), Warsaw University ( Poland ), and University of Hanoi ( Vietnam ).
