History

Until 1934

The first among the predecessors of the university can be considered a private boarding house of noble maidens , opened in Kursk in 1794 by the Frenchman Rened. In 1860, it was transformed into the Mariinsky College of the first category [1] .

In 1901, a new building was laid down for the school on Florovskaya Street (now Radishchev). The construction was completed two years later. In this building, the Kursk State University is still located [1] .

Since 1902, the Mariinsky College received the status of a gymnasium , and in 1918 the gymnasium was transformed into a teacher's institute, which since 1919 became known as a pedagogical one. At that time, teaching was conducted at the biological-geographical, literary, artistic, physical and mathematical, verbal-historical and pre-school faculties. The Institute graduated from teachers of second-level schools, teachers of labor with an agronomic bias, and educators of preschool institutions [1] .

The institute ceased its activity during the capture of the city by the White Guard troops of General Denikin and resumed work in early 1920. It was again transformed, received the name "Institute of Public Education." Historical-philological, physical-mathematical, agronomic and pre-school faculties were created, the student body was 650 people, teachers - 50 researchers. In 1921, the Faculty of Agronomy was transformed into a practical agricultural institute [1] .

In 1921, the Kursk Institute of Public Education was renamed the Kursk Pedagogical Institute, and in 1922 - into the Kursk Practical Institute of Public Education. In 1923, the institute closes, students are transferred to study at the Kursk Pedagogical College [1] .

After 1934

In 1934, by the decision of the Council of People 's Commissars of the USSR in Kursk, the State Pedagogical Institute was opened on the basis of the Kursk Pedagogical College. Four-year training was initially conducted at the faculties of history, as well as the Russian language and literature. The first set consisted of about 200 students, not counting those transferred from the Oryol Pedagogical Institute [1] .

In 1937, the correspondence department was opened, in 1940 - graduate school , since 1941, "Scientific notes" have been published. In 1941, the Institute, together with the Kursk Regional Library , was evacuated to the city of Sarapul, Udmurt Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , arriving September 6 - 9. Return to Kursk takes place in 1943. Then the faculty of geography opens. After the war, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and the Faculty of Foreign Languages open [1] .

In 1957, by decision of the government, the Kursk Pedagogical Institute was assigned to universities of the first category (before that the institute belonged to the third category) [2] .

In 1984, the Kursk State Pedagogical Institute was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor [1] .

In 1994, the university was awarded the status of a pedagogical university. In 2003, having significantly expanded the list of areas of training and specialties, the university was transformed into a classical university, and has since been called the Kursk State University [1] .
