Honor
The beginning of her veneration is connected with finding on June 14 [24], 1572, at the church cemetery at the Church of Saints Flora and Lavra on Lyudogoshchaya Street, the almost incorruptible body of a young girl: “having found a coffin on top of the earth and found a body in a tomb, tsilo, but not all ” [1] . The acquisition of relics coincided with the presence of Tsar Ivan the Terrible in the city and was reflected in the Novgorod Second (Archival) Chronicle . The relics were discovered by Novgorod Archbishop Leonid , the name and origin of the girl was probably determined by the inscription on her tombstone. An elderly local resident informed the archbishop about the time of Glyceria’s death: “ old wife Nastasia told Vladyka Leonid that she remembered how she had been escorted by a girl from the age of fifty ... ” [2] . A procession was organized on the occasion of gaining the relics, they were placed in the church of Saints Flora and Laurus and, according to the annals, they immediately began to perform miracles: on the first day Agafon, the son of the clerk Suvor Bogdan, was healed, and in honor of this, they called to the Novgorod Kremlin all day bells On August 11, 1572, a person was cured of eye disease at the tomb of Glyceria).
Cases of healing became the basis for the local canonization of the righteous Glyceria. On the day of remembrance of the righteous Glyceria, May 13 was chosen - the memory of her namesake saint Glyceria of Irakli . The church of Saints Flora and Lavra was completely rebuilt in 1674–1695 and the relics of Glyceria were placed under the cover in the southwestern corner of the church [3] . The church was completely destroyed after shelling of the city in 1941-1943. In its place, a park was laid out, excavations in its place were not carried out.
The fact of the consecration of the side-chapel of the Tikhvin Church of the Moscow Simonov Monastery in the mid- 19th century testifies to the beginning of the general church veneration of Glyceria. The general church veneration of Glyceria was confirmed by the inclusion of her name in 1981 in the Cathedral of Novgorod Saints . In the text of the service, the Glyceria Cathedral is mentioned along with other holy women of Novgorod, it compiled separate troparia , kondak and prayer . On the icons, Glyceria is depicted as a young girl with an uncovered head, a rounded face and wavy hair coming down on her shoulders.
