Seventieth ( lat. Septuagesima ) - 3rd Sunday before Lent or 9th Sunday before Easter. The first Sunday of the church calendar, which begins the countdown to Easter . The Seventieth is followed by the Sixtieth (Sexagesima) and the Pentecost ( Quinquagesima ), immediately followed by Great Lent . The celebration of the Seventieth was introduced in the Latin rite in the VI-VIII centuries [1]
