The length of the river is just a little more than 19 km, but in terms of water flow , reaching 110 m³ / s, this is the country's most powerful river. Sog flows out of the largest lake in Iceland, Tingvadlavatn , and merging with Hvitau , forms the river Elvusau . The height of the source is 103 m above sea level [1] .
Three hydro power plants with a capacity of 15, 27 and 48 MW were built on the river.
The river is inhabited by loaches , Atlantic salmon and trout .
