Biography
In 1945, he was one of the founders of the anti-colonial revolutionary movement Lao Issara, and in 1949 he became chairman of the Lao Issara Committee in East Laos.
In 1955, he was one of the founders of the Laos People’s Party, later renamed the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party ( NPL ).
In the same year he became the first secretary of the city committee of the party of Vientiane. In 1959 he was arrested and spent a year in prison before he managed to escape.
In the 1960s - 1970s played a large role during the civil war in Laos.
After the NPL came to power in 1975, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance.
In 1982–89 - 1st Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Laos.
In 1989–92 - President of the Supreme National Assembly (Parliament).
In 1992-1998 - President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic .
Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the NRLP in 1972-1996
Since 1996 - Advisor to the Central Committee of the NRLP.
