Geography
Located in east Texas 7 km east of Beaumont . It is part of the Beaumont - Port Arthur agglomeration. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city’s area is 4.5 km².
History
In 1950, the Rose Hill oil field was discovered to the south of the city [1] .
Population
According to the 2000 census , there were 519 people living in the city, consisting of 190 households and 126 families. The population density was 116.5 people per square kilometer. There were 215 residential buildings with a coverage density of 48.3 buildings per square kilometer. The racial makeup of the population was 91.52% White, 0.58% Native American , 1.16% Asian, 4.43% from other races, and 2.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.40% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
Of the 190 households, 31.6% raise children under the age of 18, 51.6% of married couples living together, 8.4% of single women, and 33.2% had no families. 23.7% of the total number live independently, including 8.9% of lonely old people aged 65 and older. On average, each household had 2.73 people, the average family size was 3.32 people.
The indicators for age categories in the city were as follows: 29.3% younger than 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 28.5% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% older 65 years old. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 101.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.5 males.
