Francois, Jacques

Jacques Francois was born May 16, 1920 in Paris in the family of a French lawyer and an American .

In his notes entitled “Reminders” ( French Rappels ), published in 1992 , Jacques wrote that he was a student of the Jesuits and was constantly surrounded by an English nanny and valet.

At 17, Francois went to serve in the Navy. Upon returning to Paris, he entered law school to become a lawyer, but soon left school and began to listen to theater lectures by Rene Simon and Raymond Rouleau ( French: Raymond Rouleau ). As a result, Jacques entered the Higher National Conservatory of Dramatic Art ( Fr. Le Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique. ).

In 1941, the actor made his debut in the theater together with the French actress Elvira Popesco ( French Elvire Popesco) in the play “Skyline” ( French La ligne d'horizon ) based on the play by Serge Roux ( French Serge Roux ). In total, he played more than 90 different roles based on the plays of Jean Anouil , Bernard-Henri Levy , Jean-Claude Brisville ( FR. Jean-Claude Brisville ) and Sasha Guitry . His stage partners were Jean Cocteau , Francoise Sagan and others.

Jacques François's career in cinema began in 1940 with small roles in Hollywood films. In the film “ The Barkleys of Broadway Couple ” ( English The Barkleys of Broadway ) he played with the famous Fred Aster and Ginger Rogers , in the “ Sorcerer ” ( English Sorcerer ) partners were Jacques Roy Scheider and Bruno Kremer .

This was followed by a period in which Francois devoted himself more to the theater.

However, in the early 1970s, he returned to the cinema, mainly playing supporting roles.

Jacques worked with such figures of cinema as: Rene Claire , Claude Zidi , Pascal Toma, Gerard Uri , Louis de Funes , Michel Galabret and many others.

During the Second World War he served in the French army . Received the rank of captain .
