GNU GNATS includes a set of tools for tracking software errors ( bugs ) reported by users on a central site. It solves the problem of managing messages and interacting with users in various ways. GNATS stores all information about a reported problem in its databases and provides tools for querying, editing, and maintaining databases.

A web interface was created for the project called Gnatsweb .

Features

Due to its architecture, GNATS is not tied to any one user interface - it can be used through the command line , email , Emacs, or the network daemon commonly used with the web interface. However, the fact that all GNATS databases and configuration files can be stored in a simple text file makes this easy to use and provides good flexibility.

Officially Supported Interfaces

There are four officially supported GNATS interfaces [2] :

Gnatsweb
Web-based interface for requesting and reporting error messages; GNATS works as a background process
Emacs GNATS Mode
Extension ("major mode") for GNU Emacs and XEmacs, allowing direct access to GNAT systems
send-pr / edit-pr / query-pr
Traditional command line utilities
Tkgnats
Cross-platform application written in Tcl / Tk
