Latvia took part in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix ( France ), but did not win a single medal. Latvia for the first time in its history took part in the Olympic Games as an independent state.

The flag carrier of the Latvian national team was the 26-year-old skier Roberts Plume . In addition to Plume, another Latvian athlete performed in Chamonix - 31-year-old skater Alberts Rumba .
Plume (1897-1956) performed at distances of 18 and 50 km, but at both failed to reach the finish line. In the summer of the same 1924, Plume also spoke at the Summer Olympics in Paris in cycling.
The skater Rumba (1892-1962) performed in all 5 disciplines held. He achieved the best result in all-around, taking 7th place. At a distance of 1,500 meters, Rumba also entered the top 10, losing to the champion Klas Tunberg for more than 10 seconds.
