Dredging is a type of earthworks carried out under water at the bottom of a reservoir in order to create or deepen existing approach waterways to ports , build berths , bridges and other hydraulic structures , lay a pipeline under water, and also expand and increase the depth of reservoirs. When performing dredging works, dredgers are used, as well as grunt-drainage barges . Dredging is divided into capital and operational. Capital dredging works are carried out to improve shipping conditions and in the construction of hydraulic facilities. Operational dredging works - for cleaning the bottom of reservoirs from silt, sediments that disrupt the operation of navigable waterways and hydraulic structures.
