Jessica Watson ( born Jessica Watson ; born May 18, 1993 , Gold Coast ) is an Australian navigator from the city of Buderim , Queensland , as of May 2010 the youngest traveler who has made a round-the-clock non-stop trip [1] .

In 2011, she was recognized as “Young Australian of the Year,” and in 2012 she received the Order of Australia medal. [2] On January 21, 2012, the record was broken by another yachtsman, Laura Dekker .

Preparation

Test swimming and accident
Before setting off on her record trip, Jessica Watson intended to make a test transition from Brisbane to Sydney . On September 9, 2009 , the first night after going to sea, her yacht collided with a 63,000-ton Silver Yang cargo ship and lost her masts . The traveler managed to maintain control and return to Southport by motor traction.
