From sea to sea ( Latin A mari usque ad mare ) is Canada's national motto , which originates from the eighth verse of Psalm 71 (72 in some translations and original) of the Psalms of the Bible . From a Canadian perspective, it means From Ocean to Ocean (from the Atlantic to the Pacific ). He was elected Minister George Monroe Grant, Secretary of Sanford Fleming during the Confederacy .
In 1872, some time after joining the Federation of British Columbia, Grant published his newspaper, called Ocean that Ocean , which eloquently spoke about the realization of the dream of a transcontinental state.

The translation of this verse into English (“ King James Bible ”) - He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth - could not go unnoticed when the former colony of Canada was called Dominion Canada .
For the first time the motto was officially used in 1906 in the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly . He is approved by Assistant Secretary Joseph Pope, who placed him on the coat of arms of Canada . It became the official motto in 1921 , when it was approved by King George V.
