Biography
Milon is a native of a noble Australian family. His brother, Count Vido (Guido), became the founder of the famous Guidonides , and Rotrude 's sister married the mayor of Australia (then the entire Frankish kingdom ) Karl Martell , whose supporter was Milon.
When Karl Martell expelled Rigobert from Reims in 717 , and Liutwind became bishop, Milon, being close to the mayor, became a clergyman . After the death of his father, Bishop Liutwin , he succeeded him at the episcopal chair . Milon led a mission to Vasconia , where Rigobert was exiled. He accumulated great wealth in his dioceses. There is evidence that Milon later received the Diocese of Trier .
Milon participated in a battle on March 24 or 28, 717, in which Karl Martell defeated King Chilperic and the mayor of Neustria Ragenfred near Vinci, in Cambresi (this place is either Vinay or Vinci 9 km south of Cambrai ), and both sides suffered heavy losses . Chilperic and Ragenfred were defeated and fled.
He was replaced in Reims by Abel in 744 . This was the decision of Pope Zacharias made with the filing of Saint Boniface , possibly the enemy of Milon. This was probably due to the fact that Milon was a secular bishop and fully supported the policy of Karl Martell, who secularized church lands.
Milon was killed by a wild boar on a hunt in the forest of (in Rhineland-Palatinate ) near Trier. Buried in Trier Cathedral .
